Ten minutes earlier than usual, which is how you know it is a good day. Tea on the veranda by half past. The gate opened once, for the milk.

The chemist's boy, the same one as always. Lunch a little late. The house is quiet between two and four, the way it has been every day this month.

Doors checked, lights down, nothing moving after quarter past ten. Hoyfo rests until morning. Nothing is read, nothing is recorded, nothing is sent.

Four steps, and only one of them touches the internet. The interesting design decision is what is missing: there is no place in this diagram where video is stored.
Inside the house
Step 01
Whatever the house already has — CCTV at the gate, a contact on the front door, the smoke alarm in the kitchen, a motion sensor in the hall. Nothing new is mounted, nothing is rewired.
Step 02
A small box beside the recorder reads the streams and the sensor traffic locally, and turns both into short, plain sentences. Frames are discarded as they are read.

Sealed envelopes are posted to Guardian Cloud, which can route them but cannot open them. No video is ever uploaded.

Privacy
Every company in this category promises not to look at your video. We removed the possibility instead — which is a harder thing to build and a much easier thing to trust.
Streams are read on the Hub, in the house, and the frames are discarded as they are read. There is no upload path for footage, because we never built one.
What we route is a sealed envelope. We can see that it exists and where it is going. We cannot open it — not for a partner, not for a subpoena, not for ourselves.
Keys are generated on your Hub and shared directly with your family's devices. If every server we own were taken tomorrow, not one photograph would be exposed.

In most families one person carries all of it. The daughter who calls. The son who books the flights. Hoyfo gives the whole family the same short thread, so nobody has to be the only one paying attention.

The checking used to eat the whole conversation. We spent ten minutes establishing that everything was fine and then hung up. Now we just talk.

He refused a camera in the house for years, and he was right to. What changed his mind was that the video stays in his house. He shows people the box now.
